Texas Exonerates Tim Cole

Governor Rick Perry today issued the first posthumous pardon in Texas’ history. The pardon – for Tim Cole, a man wrongfully convicted of rape – came more than a decade after Mr. Cole’s death in prison from asthma-related complications. More disturbingly, the real perpetrator wrote to authorities to confess the crime four years before Cole’s death, but authorities ignored his entreaties.
